The “Expenditure series” to be presented was conceived in 2003, focusing in painting, the representation and the image construction process, with this in mind, he developed a methodology in order to paint different images, formats, and styles, using a heart rate monitor to measure and count the amount of calories spent in the making of each painting. This action was formulated as the main reason to make them and the caloric information actually became the title of each piece, placing the focus of attention on the physical and mental activity of "making them", rather than looking for any other meanings through the paintings themselves.
With this system he drew many parallel meanings related to the art world, the art market and the process of creation vis a vis the process of execution. He burned more or less calories depending on the format, the composition, the colors, or the repetition executed, but, as we can imagine, this is far more complex, since the energetic consumption also related on how the artist feels about what he is making or, as well as how much comfortable he is -in terms of economy of energy- to rely on a certain artistic style and getting used to it.
